The first graders are learning how to use KNEX pieces. They will be working as one team to build a bridge out of the KNEX kit next week. They have used cooperation as they shared tips and hints they picked up while learning how the pieces interlock and separate. Second graders are making their own board games. Each student is producing their own game, but they use cooperation to test each other's games. The test is very important because it points out areas that may need improvement. The 2nd grade GT cuties love to help each other by testing games and giving advice afterwards that will help the game designer improve their work.
The 3rd grade cuties are exercising cooperation in a very active way! They have been working as a unit to build an impressively awesome KNEX roller coaster. Along the way they have had to solve many problems together. They have done so with great respect and patience with one another. The 4th graders just completed building a kicking machine. They worked in small groups to accomplish their goal of kicking a ping pong ball into a cup. Each step of the project demanded strong communication and cooperation. These students are able to really hear their teammates and put the ideas of others into practice.
The 5th grade GT cuties are doing a fabulous job creating multi-media presentations about a decade in American history. Each group has masterfully divided the tasks for the project, and they do a superior job of helping one another learn and grow!
All kids can benefit from cooperating with a group. When our gifted kids get to work with others who possess similar mental abilities they are given the opportunity to teach and learn from each other. Here at BPE the GT cuties love to cooperate and encourage one another :-)
