Thursday was a very special day for the 5th graders! Ann Hicks, grandmother of a Bridge Point student, did a special Face Time session with our class. Mrs. Hicks visited Antarctica, and she wrote a wonderful article about her experience. The kids were delighted to hear Mrs. Hicks read her article. While she read they perused a collection of pictures from her trip. The kids used their iPads to view a Keynote presentation full of incredible pictures. What a fun and inspiring week we shared!
The 5th graders have a lot to be proud of! This week they put the finishing touches on their Antarctic Arts Days ideas. They prepared a two minute presentation describing their creation and practiced it several times. On Wednesday the Arts Days parents visited our class. The students took turns sharing their ideas with the parents. They did a spectacular job!!! They were professional, well spoken, and enthusiastic. The parents loved every minute of it! The pictures above represent a few of the ideas that the students generated. Thursday was a very special day for the 5th graders! In order to practice The Engineering Design Process that we learned last week, the kids were given a special challenge. Create a carriage that can safely carry pennies down a ramp. The carriage wheels are made of Life Savers. Other materials used include index cards, straws, popsicle sticks and tape. The GT cuties are loving this project! They planned, built, tested, and improved upon their ideas with joy and fervor. Practicing the Engineering Design Process has been really fun and challenging for them. Next week we will complete the project and reflect upon what we learned.
