The challenge of the week exercised the skills of problem solving, time management, creative thinking, and communication. Students were given one partner, 50 index cards, and 12 inches of masking tape. After a five minute planning session they began to build - the goal being to build the tallest tower possible in the given amount of time. The Index Card Tower Challenge rules do not allow students to tape the tower to the carpet. The tower may not lean against anything - it must stand on it's own. Unlike most of our GT projects, this activity was a timed one day challenge. The added pressure of the clock really forced the teams to make decisions and take risks with their ideas. A vast display of creative thinking and teamwork shined through in the Index Card Towers. The ideas and ingenuity of the children is staggering! Even more impressive was their ability to communicate through the tough times - like when their tower collapsed or their idea failed. Below are a few examples of the towers the GT cuties built this week.
