Aren't these creations amazing?!?!? The GT cuties are up to their usual phenomenal habit of creating works of astonishing depth and detail out of every day objects. As you read in last week's post, the students are studying inventors and inventions. Learning about the process of invention has helped to motivate and inspire our students to achieve greatness in their own lives. The research process has been completed, and now the students are happily sculpting models out of a wide array of materials. Their job is to create a realistic model of the inventor and the invention. The deliberation and investment of the students is fun to watch! Once the models are finished students will practice the presentation of their research and models. Then they will learn more about inventors through books and/or documentaries. We will have a sharing day called The Invention Convention when the projects are complete :-)

Take a close look at the picture above. This is the materials table that your children are using to make models in GT class. The models they are making will represent inventors and inventions. Our study of inventors has been truly inspirational! The GT cuties enjoy learning about people with enormous minds who persevered in order to solve problems for others. The students are learning that it takes a great deal of self-discipline, focus, and determination to reach the highest goals. What a valuable lesson for the future inventors in our class! Each student is focusing on a specific inventor. Project details can be found in last week's post.
Be sure to check this post next week - it will include pictures of models created out of the materials on the table. Your children will amaze you with ability to make something extraordinary out of the most ordinary items :-) Q: What do influential inventors and GT students have in common? A: Curiosity, perseverance, empathy, creative thinking, problem solving skills, a desire to take learning risks, self discipline......and SO much more! This week we learned about some of the greatest inventions of all time. Students were inspired by the ingenuity and determination of the inventors of the air conditioner, the disposable razor, the vacuum cleaner, and the airplane. These are true stories of what it took to pursue the problem until a solution was found. What a wonderful life-skill for our GT cuties to emulate! We began an individualized study of inventors midweek. Students are tasked with choosing one specific inventor. Here are the project guidelines so far: Step 1: Choose the inventor and the invention. Select one invention and it’s inventor to focus upon. You may use the brainstorming activity we did to help you choose. Step 2: Research. Use your iPad to find out everything you can about the inventor. Be sure you can answer these questions:

Step 3: Create models. You will make a model of the inventor AND the invention you are studying. Each model will be no larger than 1 ft. x 1 ft. x 1 ft. You should use recyclables to form the base of your models. You must add complete decorations to the recyclables. Cover them completely so that they look very similar to the real person and the real invention. Use any classroom materials you need to accomplish this goal. Check in with Ms. O when your models are complete. Step 4: Invention Convention Share your research and models with the class during this gathering of inventors! The exact date of the convention will be determined soon. The WHS JV Soccer Team began the season officially on Thursday, January 14 at the Belton Blast Tournament. The Chaps played together beautifully and won the game 2-0! Tournament plays continues Friday and Saturday in Belton. Go Chaps!
We have had an excellent week of learning and fun in GT class! Students from all of the grade levels participated in the following activities this week:
