The kindergartners are eagerly learning the basics of being a GT student. We began by learning some of the things GT students do for their Warm Up activity when they first get to the classroom. This week they downloaded a GT app called National Geographic Puzzle Explorer. This app demands the use of strong critical thinking as the student sculpts a puzzle using basic programming commands. We also started learning about and playing checkers. The game is an excellent way to have the students practice problem solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning.
Students in 1st grade took the Straw Bridge Building Project to the next level this week. They thoughtfully decided upon at least three ways they will test their bridge when construction is complete. Each student set their own testing goals and recorded them in their Builder's Journal. After each test is completed the students will record the results, make improvements to their bridge, and test it again!
It's all about the puppet show in 2nd grade GT class! The students are enthusiastically working on creating puppets for "Underground Ella." They are using craft items and recyclable from our classroom to turn the characters into working puppets. Each student is working independently to make a few different puppets. Our next mission will be to design and build the puppet theater itself!
The 3rd grade GT cuties really care about each other! During their work time this week they chose to make a very extravagant and heartfelt "Get Well" card for one of their classmates who is out for the week. They worked together flawlessly to design the card and divide up all of the jobs needed to make their idea into reality. What a caring and productive group!
Paper airplanes are sailing all over the classroom during 4th grade GT class! That is due to The Great Paper Airplane Factory Project that the cuties have chosen to do. There are three teams working on designing and constructing paper airplanes for an upcoming contest. The teams can enter their planes into different categories such as: highest flying, longest flight duration, most aerobatic. All of the groups made excellent progress this week!
The 5th grade class was excited to complete the Festival de Eanes Movie Contest last week! We got an update from the contest hosts this week. The next phase is campus based judging. Two movies from each campus will be selected to advance to the finals. All 16 of the finalist movies will be shown at The Alamo Drafthouse on May 23....so cool!!!! We will find out if any of our movies advanced to the finals on April 20. This week the cuties have enjoyed watching the movies that they, and the other groups, made for the contest.
