These four students have been working on this project since last spring. The first step was to read several different versions of the Cinderella story. The kids really enjoyed examining the stories and finding elements that were involved in each version.
After they generated a list of these elements the students each wrote their own original Cinderella story. Their stories included the shared elements as well as plenty of their own creative thinking. Upon completion the students shared their stories with one another. Then they voted for the one story they most wanted to make into a puppet show.
The group worked collaboratively to adapt the story into a puppet show script. They used their iPads and the Google Drive app to enable them to type and edit together - each student having access to the same document. The students spent a few weeks sculpting and shaping the story into a high quality script.
Puppet making came next, and the GT cuties really loved the process! Each one of the students made several puppets. They used materials from the GT classroom and lots of ingenuity :-)
The puppet theater was the next item to make. To do so, the kids each made a design. Then, they voted on the one design they most wanted to make into the puppet theater. Using a large cardboard box, rulers, and tons of cooperation the kids were able to build the theater. They decorated it using butcher paper and paint.
Finally, the students practiced and practice and practiced! They dedicated immeasurable amounts of caring and effort to this project. Their perseverance and teamwork inspire all around them!
I am SO proud of this group and the way they worked together to make a truly memorable and entertaining show. Congratulations 3rd grade - you rock!!!
