The GT cuties in grades 1-4 resumed class this week, and it felt great to get back to work together! 5th graders will be coming to class beginning next week! Our tradition is to play Two Truths and a Lie after we've been apart for a while. We each write three sentences, in this case about what we did over the summer break. Two of the sentences are true and one must be a lie. Then, we share our sentences and the group guesses which one is the lie. It always makes us laugh and helps us to get to know each other even better. We are working together, as one large group of GT students, to create a work of art for our classroom door. Each person has traced their own hand and filled it entirely with colors, shapes, letters, numbers, etc. that express their personality. When all of the hands are complete we will use them to create the letters "G" and "T." This display of uniqueness will be visible from the hall when our door is closed. Next week the students will share with me the topics that they are interested in learning in GT this year. Perhaps you can have a conversation with them over the weekend about this opportunity. The goal is to generate a list of subjects that children are interested and curious about. Instead of focusing on topics in which they are already experts, we want to open the door to new learning and challenges. Students may suggest learning topics at any point in the year, but next week we will dedicate a lesson to this important discussion. |
In other news....I am delighted to announce that I will be coaching the WHS Girl's JV Soccer team this season! It is going to be a really fun way to combine my two favorite things - kids & soccer! Practices begin in December and games kick off in January. I'll be coaching after school and on weekends. I am now 100% certain that I am the luckiest teacher in the world, because I get to spend my days with your children and my afternoons coaching soccer. Hope to see you at one of our home games - Coach MO |
